The Houston Chronicle reported..
Police released a sketch Sunday afternoon of the child found dead on a beach in Galveston Friday.
They hope the sketch will help identify the child, believed to be between the ages of 3 and 5.
A passersby walking down the beach around 5:30 p.m. spotted the child’s body in the 700 block of Seawall, according to authorities.
The circumstances surrounding how the child’s body got on the beach remain unknown.
"The Galveston Police Department is currently scouring missing person records in an attempt to locate a report with a matching description," police said in a press release. "We are also working with surrounding agencies, including the U.S. Coast Guard, to ascertain whether they have received any reports of missing persons that would match this description."
Texas Child Protective Services is also investigating the case, a spokeswoman said Saturday. But without a name to guide them in a records search, child welfare officials are waiting autopsy results to move forward their own probe.
